Why Play Tennis?

May 30, 2018

With summer fast approaching, we’re all looking for things to do.  That’s especially true if you have youngsters at home.  The last thing we want is for them to sit around all summer in front of the computer or television.  There are plenty of activities available, from swimming to summer camps to baseball and more.  They’re all good and are highly recommended. But let me make a case for tennis.

Tennis is a sport that can be played by people of all ages.  If your kids take an interest in tennis, they’ll be able to play it for the rest of their lives.  It’s a great activity for both physical and mental health.

This summer, Grapevine High School is once again offering a youth tennis camp.  Two sessions are scheduled for the first week of June and the second week of July.  You may think it’s only for aspiring high school athletes.  But that’s not the case.

Mustang Tennis Camps are open to kids of all ages and skills – including complete beginners.  It’s a great summer activity and it’s fun!  The cost is only $100 for the week and benefits the GHS Booster Club.  You can find out more about it and sign up here.

Your children may attend and find they love it!  But that doesn’t mean they’ll want to play competitively on the high school tennis team.  It may be the beginning of a life-long activity they’ll play just for fun.  Because tennis is a very social activity.  On the other hand they may find they like it so much, they’ll want to go out for the tennis team.  And that’s an option Coach Clint Laukhuf certainly will encourage.

Want to know more?  We have an article for you to read that lists 34 reasons to play tennis.  Warning: They apply to adults as much as they apply to kids.  Read more here.
