Seniors Reilly Cleff and Ryan Sporisky led the way as Grapevine placed overall 1st in Boys and 2nd in Girls competition at this week's District 7-5A Tennis Tournament held at the Hurst Tennis Center.
Ryan won Boys' Singles. He had the toughest bracket of all the winners, starting the week with two 3-set matches on Wednesday against Colleyville Heritage and Saginaw. Then he closed out the Semis and the Finals with strong performances against Birdville and Colleyville Heritage's #1 player.
Reilly teamed up with Madison Plowman to win Girls' Doubles. They sailed through the tournament without dropping a game. It was a perfect pairing as Maddie has been a team leader all year for the Mustangs and Reilly has long been a star player on the team, having advanced all the way to last year's State Tournament in Girls' Singles. This year she elected to compete with Maddie in Doubles.
Carson Draper and Lucas Nicks won all four matches in straight sets to claim the Boys' Doubles title, including a comeback win against the District Runner-Up from Birdville. They had a particularly impressive win in the Finals winning 6-1 6-1 over Colleyville Heritage. It's Lucas' second year at Regionals having advanced as the Doubles Runner-Up last year.
The Regional Tournament will be held at Texas Tech's McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock April 17th and 18th. Follow the results on the UTR website.
